My brother has just been remanded in prison, actually Tuesday. We've had absolutely no contact with him. He suffers from severe anxiety. We can't visit because of COVID. I'm currently trying to just find out how he is. My family and I are just worried sick and are now in a state of despair. I just want to know he's OK!! ????

Hi HIP

so sorry to hear about your brother. As the mother of a son who is in prison I know how you feel. The worry and anxiety at the beginning is horrendous and takes a huge toll on your mental health.

your brother will be in touch so long as he has someon in the families phone number. It can take three to five days for the prison to issue him with a PIN number for the phone. He cannot make a call before this is done.

I called the prison on day two when I hadn't heard from my son. They put me through to a family liaison officer who put my mind at ease by telling me he had spoken to our son that morning and that although he was shocked he was okay. He also explained about our son having to wait for a pin to be set up for him to be able to make phone calls. I know how hard it is but please sit tight. He will call as soon as his pin is up and running. If you think he won't have any numbers in his head or written down you can send a letter with phone numbers to him. I'm told you address it to him, date of birth on second line ( because you won't have his prison number) and the prison address under that. Take care x

hi there, i know this reply has maybe come too late and i hope you have had contact from him.

my brother was arrested back in november and was in custody for a month. the first 2 weeks we had no contact and it was the worst 2 weeks of our lives. we finally were able to talk to him after the corrupt prison system processed the phone numbers he had given.

i hope things are a bit better now for you a month later.

i haven't found many people on this forum who have had brothers arrested. mine has his sentencing hearing in 2 weeks. i cry myself to sleep every night because i can't go back to how it was when he was in custody.
