Hi fallen. I assume the fact you are asking about character references that your partner has been charged? Or are you preparing yourself to write one in advance?
I wrote one for my partner for his sentence date. His solicitor have him a template for me to use but I believe they are easily available online since these types of letters are relevant for all types of offenders (not just child sex offences).
The reference is primarily to provide the judge some more context on the offender's behaviour before and after their arrest. How it has impacted you but also to disclose what your partner has done to rehabilitate. It isn't for expressing what you think the outcome of the sentencing should be. But you could emphasis the impact it will have in yourself if he gets custodial.
On his sentencing the judge didnt not mention the character references (there were about five) so I'm not sure what effect it had in the end. But worth a shot. Mine was a page and half long.
