This may seem an odd question but does anyone know the severity and likely consequences regarding iioc? I have had a look on the CPS website but its quite confusing.

AFAIK the charges against him relate to downloading and distributing as well as chatting on forums related to iioc. He (I know now) has former record of sexual assault against children.

I have a feeling things will turn nasty and I want to prepare and protect myself for what's ahead.

Thanks x

Hi dory

My husband was sent iioc via kik messenger but it was still seen as him being in possession of them because they were on his device.

Hes recently been to crown court and the judge served him with a 3yr community order and 5yrs on the sor register. We were sure he was going to get a custodial but the judge saw something in him that day and gave him a 2nd chance which he said he wasn't famous for doing..I guess every case is different and it all depends on the judge on the day

Sorry to jump in on this post, Annie I just wondered, do you know what the community order invloves? My partners solicitor thinks he may get one of these but said it might not necessarily be community service.. I'm not sure what else it would be .. and did he get a SHPO?

Hi dory

I found this link useful when my partner first told me about his offending

https://www.sentencingcouncil.org.uk/offences/magistrates-court/item/possession-of-indecent-photograph-of-child/

I believe it is accurate. It gives the max sentences based on type of offence (possession, distribution etc) and categories.

It is hard to know for sure what will happen on the day of the court. But I believe in preparing for the worst and hoping for the best. By understanding the limits in law you can figure out if a prison sentence is possible.

The stop it now site has a good section that explains the SOR and SHPO too.

I honestly have no idea what the community order involves as we're only 2 weeks post-sentence..last week was hubby's 1st probation session and it was more of an introductory session.this week will be his 2nd session and it will be more in depth he's been told..from what he's told me so far, I think he's 2 go on a course ( don't quote me on that) and I believe maybe counselling aswell( again dnt quote me)..probation have also told him they're going to work on getting him home..

I wish I could tell you more..hopefully I may be able to tell u more after his session on Wednesday..his probation is for 30 days which is to be spread out over the 3yrs
