Solicitor attending Police Interviews

Has anyone very recently been told by their solicitor that they will not attend the interview in person and it will be remote instead? What are current COVID guidelines on this?
My partner had his with the solicitor on loud speaker...... hufffff, craziness

I just wanted to check to see if this has happened to anyone else. This seems so unfair that the Police can say that Solicitors can only represent remotely.
