hi - just having a panicky moment about my job. At the moment work saying it is fine about what is going on. But in future jobs there is strong likelihood I would need an enhanced DBS. I don’t work directly with people but have access to their data. If my partner is convicted and I stay with him does this mean it will be disclosed on my DBS?

While a dbs check is related to your history i believe if it is relavent additional information can be provided regarding the criminal record of people you live with etc. I have an enhanced dbs check and my understanding is that if convicted my partners offence may be detailed in other information section. So if you work with children that would be relavent. I dont work with children so hopefully it will not be an issue.

Hi Big Sigh,

welcome to the crazy world of guilty by association. Rationally I cannot figure how a conviction by a.n.other has any relevance to someone with a clean record...but it does. What would make you share any data with your husband anyway, you’d be sacked for breaching confidentiality, if he’s convicted does that make you more likely to share the data with him? Absolutely not!

I’m sorry but the complete over reaction to this subject has led to the total oppression of innocent people, their lives and their careers. It’s discrimination and breaches your human rights in my opinion.

But that’s often not how employers work. It’s more about damage to their reputation (which will make them distance themselves from you)

Are you in a Union? If you are you can speak to your Union rep for some clarity. I can guarantee they’ll have dealt with something like this before. If you’re not in a Union do you have legal cover on your house insurance? If you do you can get legal advice from them. Does your employer have any wellbeing support for employees, a telephone helpline or some such provision of anonymous care for employees?

As a last resort you can speak to someone in your HR department, they will already know of your situation because your manager would have sought guidance from HR as soon as you informed them what happened.

Best to find out so you can put your mind at rest. It’s another problem you can tick of your list in this pious and daft world of ‘risk bingo’

Sorry, double negative. I would think because you no longer live at the same address (and no longer together?) you will not be affected.

Andrea it wont affect you if your no longer living together. I had my DBS check 2 weeks ago and it came back all clear. There was no mention of my husband and his conviction on there. And it shouldnt be on a DBS unless you have been convicted of something yourself

Andrea i have yearly DBS due to one of my jobs my last 1 was before the knock and this one was identical to that one. Unless you have been taken in and investigsted in regards to the conviction (which happens sometimes if they dont know who in the household was the offender) it shouldnt come up on your as it isnt your conviction
