Second police interview
Notifications OFF
Hello,
My ex is being called in for his second interview in a couple of days. He's being investigated over iioc. He strongly denies having anything on his devices. The police have had them since June.
What happens in a second interview? Does this mean they've found something and he could be charged?

My partner only had the one interview, straight after the knock. He should only speak to the police with a solicitor, ane one who specialises in these types of offences.
Hi
im no expert but from reading on here there is usually only a second interview if they have found something on the devices or more than they found after first checking the devices. I'm sure other ladies who have been in thus situation will have more knowledge as it was not my partner who offended, it was my son and it was not images, it was communication. I think the investigation is slightly different between the two x

My husband had a second interview for iioc. His solicitor was given a disclosure of what was found on his devices which included the number of images and categories and what device they were located on. His interview was based on this. If he has a solicitor you could request your ex gives disclosure so you are aware of what is found.
It seems in most cases that charges are imposed a few weeks after a second interview if they think they have enough evidence to take to CPS. Just to give you the heads up.
I would just say, don't make the mistake that my partner did, and speak to the police without a solicitor. he said all sorts of things, which were not at illegal or relevant. They read some of this out in court. Which although was not illegal, or anything to do with children. Didn't cast him in the best light. Some of which was then preported on in the media (and sadly exaggerated). I don't know what they would ask in a second interview, but I would guess it is because they have additional questions, and they think an interview will gain more information that can increase the chances of prosecuting or increase the severity of any charges.
Thank you for your replies. I had the same thinking that they wouldn't need a second interview if his devices came back squeaky clean and it would have just been no further action but I dont know how police investigations work. We have a child together but SS not currently involved as they know I'm protecting her well. As we've not been together for years the police/SS aren't able to tell me anything about the investigation.
I think one of the reasons police and SS say very little is because it might impact a trial hearing if your ex pleads not guilty. And in general access of info to ex partners is overall limited. Which I think is still silly really if you have a child with the them. Hopefully your ex is being honest with what is going on and maybe get disclosure with their solicitor.
Hello Lightbulb. Has there been any update? How was the second interview? Hoping and praying for you
Hello Angie...
The interview apparently got pushed back to the 3rd of June... unsure as to why. Getting information from my ex is like getting blood out of a stone! That's why I'm relying on SS to keep me posted when they can.
I'm naively thinking that at least they've not hauled him in straightaway to arrest him???!! But who knows, I'm oblivious to police procedures. Guess I'll just have to wait and see.
Thank you for asking, it means a lot as I'm alone in this. I don't want to tell family/friends and tarnish their opinion of him in case he is completely innocent but then a part of me thinks that these allegations wouldn't have just come out of nowhere???? I'm still in the dark about why the police started investigating him in the first place.

Same as my sons he was called in for 2nd interview then they cancelled twice fgs.
Unfortunately when they ask for a 2nd interview it means they have found something.. hoping for your sake it's minor.
My son had 400 iioc arrested 2019 Dec has magistrates in July so it takes a long time for anything to happen depending on where you are .
Don't rush into any decisions and be kind to yourself . Sending a virtual hug x

Is it always the case that the police have been to the CPS already before they have a second interview?

Nope, my OH's findings got sent to CPS after the second interview. That was in April 2021 and yet to hear charges.
Hoping you hear back soon.
I have to keep telling myself to go with the flow and I'll know when I know. Easier said than done!
