My family are thinking of going to Australia in two years time and my partner would like to go if possible. We have looked on unlock.org which has said it isn't impossible but quite hard with a conviction. By the time we would go his sentence would be over but not yet spent.
Has anyone else managed to go to Australia or any other country that has restrictions? One aspect that wasn't clear to me was whether local police would check up on my partner when abroad, as in turn up at the accomodation. We will be staying with family and they don't know about his conviction.

My daughter and family live in Australia My husband's offending manager told him it's unlikely he will ever get a visa again Australia and USA are very strict
this has to be the worst possible punishment to never be with our grandchildren together and for me to travel alone We are currently living apart for a while as I needed time alone following the court case and when I FaceTime my Grandson always says 'Where's Grandad'? Utterly heartbreaking ????

Heya Majestic,
It's been a while since I've logged onto here... I hope you and your partner are well..
VisaV Australia, I heard it impossible however I did hear about one case for the USA where a person applied for a visa a few years after his conviction was spent... Got denied then about 15 years later applied again and managed to get one..
So I would say unfortunately I don't think he'll be able to go because it's all about the rules and regs on the country you're going to!
I hope you get some more clarification soon

Hi blackhound :)
I know it is a loooooong shot and think it would be turned down especially since the sentencing was relatively recent. We have been told there is nothing to lose as such to apply (other than money). I hope maybe one day my partner can come with me to Australia or America.
And with Brexit not sure on the rules now either. We get asked alot by family and friends to go on holiday and it is awkward to say my partner won't be coming. We previously used the accuse of lack of funds but we are doing well now...

Heya Majestic,
One thing I've found works is going to places where there is a distinct lack of criminal record checking.
That's not related to Europe or Interpol.
Africa is a good one for that and Japan... You have to be selective but you can still seem to others to be having a good holiday and life, you just choose different places.
Goodluck!
