Hi Sam!

sorry to hear about your situation.
The prospect of prison for this sort of offence is worrying, but from what my partner has experienced they are held separately to general population and are quite safe. If a custodial sentence is given, more than likely your friend will be sent to a holding prison, and then on to more permanent place.

With Covid present still, prison life is more restricted. They are currently only allowed out for 1 hour a day, to get washed, speak to people they need to, make phone calls etc unless they are lucky enough to get a job which are few and far between at the moment.
They spend most of the time in their pad (cell) either alone or sharing. They have a television to watch and a kettle for tea and coffee. They have the opportunity to participate in education also. They order what they would like to eat for meals weekly, and have canteen once a week to buy treats and toiletries, which they must pay for themselves with money earned, or sent over to them by friends and family.
If they are well behaved they can by moved up from basic to enhanced (normally after 12 weeks but it varies) and are able to obtain more privileges. Maybe order a game console or other things, normally listed and ordered from a designated supplier.
Visits are restricted in most prisons still but you can arrange a video visit which is nice.
prison life is very hard, but from what I've heard inmates seem to be safe and well fed.

Good luck to you and your friend.

Sam

I am a mum to a 21 y/o son he is due in magistrates in July.

I am replying to you as I just wanted to say thank you for standing by your friend. People don't understand that this is an addiction and as much as I hate this my son is my son so I choose to stand by him. My son is being charged for around 400 iioc in all 3 cats .

I really hope your friend is doing OK this is a real dark time . I really hope your friend doesn't get custodial is this his first offence ? Did your friend share the images ?

Hi thinking of you all hoping that your loved ones/friend do not get custodial sentences. Prison is not the answer, rehabilitation, help , understanding and support is needed to help them through, its a life long committment . That is not forgetting the victims, in these pictures or condoning what they have done, but helping them to minimise , manage the risk and change their behaviour to ensure it dosent happen again

big hugs and best wishes to you all
