I am sorry this has happened to you as well, it's complete shock when it happens. Most of the high street / compare the market style insurance companies keep their costs down by limiting the types of people / properties they will insure to those they consider low risk. So they don't insure people with a conviction (regardless of the offence), properties in flood zones, listed building etc.

When this happened to me I got house insurance through Home Protect, they are a broker and can provide insurance for those with convictions. Be prepared for it to be higher than you had previously. You could try other insurance brokers, but most people seem to go to Home Protect.

Not to add to your nightmare, but because you had insurance cancelled you may find it harder to get other insurance such as car insurance if they ask the generic question of 'have you had any insurance product cancelled in the past x years'. That stopped me getting car insurance with some people even though my partner is not on my car insurance and it was my house insurance that was cancelled. A local insurance broker managed to sort me out and ended up getting me cheaper car insurance with better cover.
