Hello,

I am hoping someone can help with timescales as to what is happening...

My parents got the knock in September 2020. The house was search and several laptops/phones etc were taken. Dad had his first interview but was let home. Since then we haven't heard anything...it's now 8months later and still none the wiser.

dad admitted to what he'd done. This included sharing (cat b/c?) images but does not know what he actually downloaded(in bulk from the dark web) He's admitted that some of what he saw was "very wrong and deleted".

given the timescales and what he's admitted to us I'm thinking the worst... I'm hoping someone else has been in this position??

thank you x

Lexi

I'm sorry you find yourself here, so unfortunately this isn't a quick process, it's a long road .

My son was arrested in Dec 2019 and he attends magistrates in July which in total is 18 months .

We recieved phone call in March for 2nd questioning so that was 15 months after knock .

Be kind to yourself and reach out when you need too.

Sending a virtual hug your way x

Lexy. So sorry for what you and your family are going through.

In my experience the knock came in January 2020, and My Husband will be sentenced in July.

They give you very little information other than sending through court dates.

When it came to discussing likely sentences we were told that it essentially depends on the mood of the Judge, so still have absolutely no idea on the outcome.

Lexy we have a very similar story...

My husband was interviewed in September and devices were removed. He plead guilty there and then for cat B and C. A very small amount with a reasoning as to how he found himself doing what he was doing. Never an excuse and it didn't remove the guilt...

We're still no closer but I am hoping for no longer than 12 months waiting... purely because I want to get on with life.

According to the Stop So therapist I was seeing, if they admit guilt it's an automatic 33% reduction in the sentence they would normally get. It can take a very, very long time for minor offences like this because they're not perceived as a threat compared to say someone who committed a much more serious crime.

It's gotten worse through lockdown and Covid too...

Update...

I have just found out that what was downloaded is worse than thought...

The case will be going to the CPS which may be more leanient(?) than magistrates(?).

Dad has been charged and now we're just waiting for a date which we are told could be notified the day before.

Any knowledge about what happens now warmly recieved.
