Hi all

During the process of the investigation into my husband he has disclosed that he was abused as a child. He has now taken the decision to report this past abuse.

He wants to do this anyway - but I understand it could also be a mitigating factor at sentencing.

Does anyone have any experience with a) reporting historical abuse cases? And b) if this has had any impact to mitigating circumstances at sentencing and what it's lead to?

thanks

Hi Lee

Thats what my hubby wants too - closure for him and any other potential victims. It's me thinking it might also help his case.

Only issue we are having is we know the guys surname and his sons name and a lot of other details - but not his first name. So now starting the process of trying to find out his name as I'm not sure it's enough to not have his first name ect.

Have you found that your husband has been able to get closure or not yet?

2 years is a long time to have been going through all this. Do you think reporting the abuse has delayed your husbands case? Hope it's all over for you soon.

Thanks Lee really appreciate it

We did some Facebook digging and found the guy last night so we now have his name. I think in a few days hubby will make the report and hopefully he gets the same relief yours did.

Hi my husband wrote me an 8 page letter of how he was abused from an early age at nursery ( early 70s) and also by a family member ..

I told he had to give it to his solicitor which he did .. but it really didnt help much .. as this was his second time offending iioc .. they really didn't want to give him bail .. i was the deciding factor as i was still at home ..

So not sure wether this letter will carry any weight at sentencing

Sorry not much help ..
