Morning All,

We are only 2 months into the process and will be 3 months in when other half’s next bail ends but I am trying to prepare myself as much as possible in all areas.

We have a solicitor but she hasn’t started work for us yet as she said there isn’t any point until the point have done all computer checks and it’s gone to cps and he’s charged etc. He is planning to plead guilty to charges as he knows he done wrong as is starting the path to addressing this behaviour which is what I need him to do for there to be an us in the future.

With planning in mind could someone give me an idea of what costs they have paid to solicitors representing them? We are saving like hell at the moment preparing for him to loose his job potentially and I’d be interested to see some idea of what we will fork out in legal bills to basically get us the best outcome possible- not defend but get the best result we can from the court system?

thanks in advance

Hiya

I know my ex had paid nearly 10k after one magistrates and one crown court pleasing not guilty appearance, I'm sure that included his solicitor and barrister at crown court.

He's now pleasing guilty and I'm assuming he'll have his barrister to plead for a lesser sentence next month.

Look after yourself and well done to him for coming clean and getting help, that's a massive step.

Lots of love xx

Big sigh

Sorry, can’t help as only just started the process. I think the so,icitor is £160 per hour + VAT so I can see how £10k could be spent once you include barrister etc. From other people’s experiences I think it is worth the money as the sentences can vary so wildly and the repercussions of it all last a lifetime. I always think of extreme cases where expensive lawyers get people off. Was it Pete Townsend who got not guilty because the jury were persuaded he was viewing for research purposes? Unfortunately justice is not blind and it favours the rich

My partner paid around £800 I think for meetings with solicitor and magistrates court. He was sentenced at magistrates court after entering a guilty plea so we didnt need to pay for a barrister or anything. I think a barrister for crown court would have cost around £1000 for sentencing, obviously if there is a trial the cost goes much higher. It depends what they do for you really as to how much it costs, most charge around £250-£350 for a meeting to discuss things so there's no point paying that until he is charged and you have something to discuss.

Thanks both,

I’m hoping that it won’t be as much as £10k as he’s pleading guilty it’s not about defending but putting him across in best light etc?

I will do some calls when back in the U.K. I think and see what some solicitors say.

Thanks Maria that’s really helpful to know.

I’m praying we don’t go to crown but I know that a lot of cases do.

I have been working on £200-£300 an hour so that seems to link with what you said and agreed our solicitor is lovely and just doesn’t want us paying for the sake of it.
