Hiya.

How comes it takes a couple of months in the north and seems like forever in south.

Is it down to lack of staff or anything else.

I guess COVID-19 has played a big affect.

Hi,

We're up north and it's taken 15 months to charge. Nothing new found during investigation. 3 photos in total. No idea how it's taken so long.

I'm in the North and it took 2 years before the second interview and then another couple of months for magistrates and crown, so all in all it took 2 and half years from knock to sentencing. I'm north west

It sadly shows what a mess the whole system is in, one thing that those that are supporting there sons, need to keep in mind if your son was arrested and is under investigation while there are under 18, if the investigation continues past there 18th birthday then when sentenced in court they are sentenced as an adult and ther time on the register and time on any SHPO will be based on an adult time frame not that of a person under 18.

This delay has a big impact if it is decided to only give them an official caution (done at the police station), as any one under the age of 18 that receives a caution regardless of the offence being cautioned for means that the offence will never show on any level of DBS check, so if they were under 18 and given a caution they would never have to disclose it that goes for teaching, health care etc. As soon as they turn 18 and if cautioned the offence would always show on a standard or enhanced DBS check so they would not be able to work in teaching or healthcare (it would still not show on a basic DBS)

My husband's case (iioc) was under investigation for 7 months before he was arrested , charged and bailed back in July. The solicitor has advised he may get a hearing date by the end of the year. We are in Scotland.

The waiting is hard going but it has allowed him to engage with the Stop It Now counsellor and course and to begin specialist therapy. We are hoping the court will recognise the work he is doing as mitigation when it comes to sentencing (my husband has entered a guilty plea).

Try and find something good in every day for yourself.

Hey,

I'm North West and it has been just over 5 months. My partner was arrested for an alleged conversation and sending an indecent image to a 15 year old 2 years ago before we were together, my partner was unaware they were 15 as it was an adult chatroom and ended conversation when they revealed they were 15. His phone has been confiscated. Officers were horrible to both me and him. Still waiting for further charge or NFA.

Hoping for something soon. This whole experience is the definition of limbo.

Love and hugs to all the fellow strong readers - regardless of outcomes we have the power and strength to overcome any obstacle x

We're north west, knock 9 months ago and magistrates today. Crown in 8 weeks. Images offence not communication. Over 3000 images though so this will have an affect on the time frames. If it's only a few images, they'd put that lower on priority.

Chelsea1 I'm hoping that means it will be reasonably straight forward in sentencing and he just gets a suspended sentence!

Neither north or south but in the middle of the country.
almost a year since the knock. Police ring me regularly and tell me each time it will be a few more weeks and it will be done with on there part but I've heard that 3times now.
What do u class as north and south?

I'm N west and it's taken 2yrs 3 months to get to magistrates. Time scale just adds to the families burden/distress.

I'm in the north and the knock was in march 2019, his sentencing is next Monday, nearly 30 months. Several thousand images.

I wish the north were quicker as you say

I agree Lee it is very frustrating that you never reihear about the police catching those who create the iioc in the first place.

I also wonder how the police work on online offender cases. My partner had thousands of iioc so it made sense that it took just over two years under investigation. But I believe I have seen others with much less found yet the timings are similar. Is it that despite being arrested the police don't alway look into devices straight away? I know the arrest rates have sky rocketed and the police are under alot of pressure to keep up. But I do suspect that it doesn't take them this long from start to finish to get through to charging.

Mw,

North East here and will be a year in November since original arrest and nothing else has been said since! Seems to be a lottery!

To everybody,

my children see their dad under supervision but what worries me the vigilante group in question have not released his sting video at the request of the police and because of my children, I worry that now is the calm before the storm ?? and worry for my family safety when they choose to release it! They also made a very public statement that they did not venture out on stings in lockdown and wondered due to this misinformation and false statement whether when it comes to the posting of the sting will I be able to stop ???? it in its tracks to protect my kids and myself from the hell and uproar it will create!

Hi SoTired

I am so sorry to hear that the CPS have made this error and it has taken six months for this to come to light.

Our experience was that once the file went to the CPS it was acted on quite quickly, about 4 weeks.

If your son is under 18years of age I am sure that I have read that the CPS try to act quite quickly with making decisions on Youth cases. To be honest we did not have a good experience with the Police, so once the file had gone to the CPS, we did contact them to find out how quick a decision would be made. This was because we only had a matter of a few weeks before the member of our family turned 18 - we were lucky as the member of our family managed to attend court within days before his 18th birthday.

I really hope that the CPS is making an effort to fast track your son's case now, due to error they have made.

Take care and best wishes

Hi SoTired

I have just looked on CPS website with reference to Youth Offenders. As I thought it states all cases involving youth offenders should be dealt with expeditiously and avoid any delay. It may be worth you while having a look at the CPS website for youth Offending if you haven't already done so.

Hope this may be of some help to you.

Best Wishes

Unfortunately these things can take 1-2 years to complete... We're just past the 1 year mark now.... No communication from the solicitors (whoever they even are) nor the police... I am fully prepared for atleast 24 months
