Out of my comfort zone

So although I have decided we need to seperate after the crown court hearing (and we know what we are dealing with) I have still agreed to do couples counseling. My husband has been seeing a psychotherapist and feels it would help me to try and understand where his head was at. This is way out of my comfort zone as I'm quite a reserved person when it comes to dealing with issues 'out in the open'. I am willing to give anything a try though as I have been really struggling recently.
I know it won't make me change my mind about seperating but it might make me understand why he went down this dark road in the first place. I need to be able to trust again to be able to move on with my life.
Has anyone else tried couples counselling and has it helped?

Mw,
My partner and I have been going to couples counseling ever since my partner told me about what happened. It has helped a lot, not just in rebuilding trust and talking through different parts of this experience, but also in fine-tuning our communication skills in general. It has also helped my partner learn how to better recognize, understand, and express different emotions. I definitely recommend. As long as your counselor is kind and has solid therapy experience under their belt, there is something to gain in giving it a try.

We went to couples counselling too and it helped. It reminded us of why we were together and that we had a great life prior to the arrest. For me, it was worth fighting for. Not easy by any means but I'm glad I stayed.
Also, I had counselling just for myself. It was a safe space for me to talk openly about how it had all affected me. At first it was tough - to be honest, vunerable and talk about such an awful event but it helped me understand how to care for my own mental health.
As has already been said, with a trusted counsellor you have nothing to lose.
Sending strenth.

Where did you find couples counselling, can you get referred or do you arrange privately?
