My son was sentenced to 47 months recently he had been on remand for almost a year & is due to be released in January 2020. It’s been almost 4 years since the initial knock at our door.... my son is also on the Autistic spectrum & has ADHD. i know that I now need to see someone who specialises in this area to talk to/ I’ve got so many feelings & emotions running through my head as well as a 19 year old daughter & husband - We have all fumbled our way through the past year particularly and are all struggling emotionally in our different ways! I wondered if anyone had had any success with counselling? To try and make some sense of it all & come to terms with what has happened. What the future holds fo my son & us. We live in Somerset so any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I hope that makes sense! I have a call booked in with stop it now but not until the 11th March & don’t think they offer a counselling service either. Sending strength to you all xx

Councelling is a massive help, i felt I really needed that time to say whatever I wanted without judgement. I also have had cognitive behavioural therapy which is equally useful in putting things into perspective and controlling negative thoughts/feelings and reducing anxiety. I also saw a lucy faithful practitioner to have a chat about it all and get advice. The councellor I saw had no expertise in sex therapy or crimes of this nature, i think they may have learnt as much frim me as i did from them. I think you can find therapists that specialise in different areas, hopefully someone can give you advice on how to find out about that.

I am paying privately while I am on the nhs waiting list. Mainly because I am having intense panics. These have eased a little in the last few weeks but sometimes it still hits me that this happened.

its expensive privately but because I have only told two friends and my mum I do need a safe space to process this information just for me.

its worth looking into.
