Ive been quiet recently, but need a little advice please . Would you take it further with regards press coverage ? It truly is driving me insane. So my son was charged with 368 iioc and the news paper reported double the amount. Although I'm not sure what will happen but I think its so wrong that they can get away with it. I have spoken to a solicitor and they think I have a case, do I leave it and just let people believe that it was double or do I take it further to teach them a lesson ?

I hope everyone is doing OK x

i am very bitter how my boy was demonised by the press. We were told coverage wouldn't happen but oh yes it did plus our address, was mortified......

There were several other instances which we deemed unfair but at the time far too upset and drained to cause a fuss or complain.

in the end we decided to let it go, and convinced ourselves it'd soon be 'old' news and so it was. Trouble is it remains - just a few taps away, which I also think is unfair.....

Your words could be mine, the newspaper reporter said the judge said man with significant interest in children which was not said by judge and absolutely wasn't the case, my son was sent a link through kik that downloaded a job lot.

Every day I wake up thinking of what the paper reported and the fact of how many iioc there were drives me crazy because they lied, this happened 2nd August and I'm still not over it .

Thank you for replying xx

Becky...

I fully understand how you feel regarding the lies printed in the media...

My partner was convicted of 5 images. In court the CPS clearly stated they were under eighteen . .( They were as I had seen all the written evidence) however the local and national paper simply cancelled the TEEN bit and went with the headline under Eight ...

They also doubled the number of images for sensation purposes.... which caused more trouble as close relatives whom we had confided in thought we had lied.

In hindsight I wish I had bothered to make a complaint at the time, however we are now 4 years past this nightmare and the fear of bringing it back into the public domain is more scary than the original case.

I wish you good luck and best wishes if you do proceed....

I'm sorry to hear of your experience, they just don't understand what it does do they.

I totally understand what your saying, I don't want it brought up again, I just don't want them thinking they can get away with it, time after time. My son is now 22 and from arrest to now has changed his life considerably the knock happened Dec 2019.

Thank you for taking time to reply, I wish you well x

My boy was made to look like a preditory child rapist - (not saying he was innocent) but this WAS NOT appropriate, it wasn't the case at all.

As to the details of his crime, I don't know - he has a very gentle character, would have been very frightened and I'm sure was stitched up big time - would have been easy fodder for them to twist...... to get their conviction.

I bet this happens a lot in this type of crime.

I'm so sorry to hear this, I know how you are feeling so gutting.

One of my f/m was raped last year and the police were horrible to her, wouldn't give her the time of day , took the wrong parts of bedding and basically let the man get away with it.. the mind bloody boggles.. then we have these men who get wrapped up in this offending and made to look worse than a murderer know one would take a bullet for a sex offender and they are all classed the same which is absolutely disgusting.

The system they have is to set them up for them to fail. I won't write too much I'll be here all day . How is your son copping and of course you xx

Hi Becky - any sexual offence is horrific - and the culprits should be punished. I feel any crime of this type is sensationalised and I will never again believe anything in the media.....

Not too bad - Thankyou for asking -my boy is coping though prison is very much in virtual lockdown as we speak.....

that is horrendous, this is the thing I dread the most from our case. If the papers get hold of it and what they will print. It's a hard one to know whether to take this further but I totally understand your frustration and anger towards the press. They shouldn't be allowed to false report as if they were lawless!!

sending hugs xx

Hi, when my partners case was reported they said things that hadn't been said, omitted things that had, the temptation is to put story right, we decided not too, I know how you feel, the media sensationalise this type of story, they demonise the men involved, I know my partner has done wrong, he has paid with losing his son, losing his job, he is not the man portrayed in the press, this was only 3 months ago, do you ever stop looking over your shoulder

In my partner's case they exaggerated too, claiming the majority of images were in the most serious category, and of a much younger age than was true. We took the view, that it would likely just cause more publicity if they corrected and updated the article. The damage was sadly already done. We also hoped that the untruthfullness of the article may make it easier to remove under right to be forgotten, no luck there so far though.
