I would imagine they have all the evidence from devices and will be looking to see if they can gain any more incrimating information by interviewing him.

It's just my personal opinion, I'm not sure about what's best, but I'd go with whatever the solictor recommends as they tend to be looking out for the best interests of their client.

Hi Sadmum, in regards to the questions you raise do not look at changing his name untill all this is over and certainly not untill after he is convicted, if he is convicted that is. If you were to change the name now and that was his documented legal name then that is the name that would be read out in court as well as his posible old name as the offence was committed under that name. The best thing is to wait and if he is convicted then change the name as the new name will not be associated with the offence in the press.

In regards to the interview although the appropriate adult will be there, do not and i cant stress this enough to not let him attend unless he has legal support in regards to a solicitor, and what ever firm you are using make sure that the person with him is a solicitor and not a para legal or solicitor in training.

In terms of what will be discussed, if they have looked at his devices then they will discuss what they have found, his solicitor will advise him if he should answer the questions or make a no comment interview based on the disclosure that is made to them befor the interview.

good luck

The voluntary interview is to go through evidence which means they have found stuff. As for changing your sons name I highly recommend you don't, as this new name will be used for the rest of his life, my son changed his after conviction, after press coverage and alot of people finding out. So yes he lost his job, lost his so called friends and some family members but he now has a new life new name. You see if your son changes his name now he could be known as both so they could use both names in court, when he does anything in new name then that potential person may or may not of seen it in press. Hold onto hope that it won't be reported most are not although my sons was for 368 iioc I was told they wouldn't report on so little but of course they did. I suppose it's down to how much is going on in court. My son has moved away to uni which was the best thing for him .. yesterdays news is old news. I wish you & your son well.. take care x

Any interview is about trying to strengthen the chances of conviction, and reducing the possibilities of certain defences. He is unlikely to know the intracacies of various laws, and may falsely believe he is guilty or innocent. A person who interviews people every day can take advantage of this imbalance of power, to gain quotes that can sound damning in court. He should talk to a solictor, ideally one who works in this area. The solicitor can advise if he should answer questions or not. He can always provide a written statement later. A solicitor can stop leading questions and may be able to ascertain whether the police are on a fishing expedition, or have strong evidence.

I really feel for you as I've been there, we are now only 2 months from conviction. If it hits press yes people could find out but true people stay, if it doesn't hit press great but then you've changed your sons name for no reason ? If you wait until after and it is released then yes people will know but many won't. Then your son can change his name & live a new normal... this may help u a little take in your sons bag a baseball cap, a hoodie and sweatpants & sunglasses if he comes out of court then ask him to change into it and wait 20 mins before coming out of court that's what we did as no pictures are allowed to be taken in court and his picture wasn't in there as they didn't know where he was although they did look I went in court with blonde hair came out with a brown wig on. We came off social media, removed all pics etc 8 weeks prior and I havnt been on since. Unfortunately it's down to judge on day if he uses new or old name but it is frowned upon by a judge I was told that by 4 different solicitors x
