Hi everyone

I just wondered if anyone knows where the media can get information about someone other than what is read out in court? My partner is not on social media and never has been and I have removed any traces of him from my FB. Can they go digging around for information if so where? I regularly google his name but nothing is there. I think with GDPR laws now it's surely not so easy now.

Thanks

Hello Mabel,

Thank you for reaching out for some support and advice from the Family and Friends Forum. We have noticed that this post has not yet received a response from other forum users. Anxieties about whether your partners offence will be shared with the media are difficult to deal with. The media should not be provided with any information by any professional bodies such as the police or social services, however, there are times when the police will report this information themselves to the public. If you keep who is aware of your partners offence limited to those who can be trusted to keep the information private then there is a reduced chance that they will receive this information from anywhere other than court.

I would like to strongly suggest that you call our helpline (if you haven’t done so already) so that you can receive some tailored, individualised support from one of our experienced advisors. Our Stop It Now! helpline is confidential and anonymous(0808 1000 900).

I hope that, in the meantime, you receive some replies form other forum users soon.

I hope this has been helpful.

Take care,

Lucy

Hi, we had a reporter in court, they didn't get a photo of him leaving however they must have googled his name, he hasn't got any social media accounts though unfortunately he was in a trade magazine when he got a new job, not only did they use the photo from this article they phoned up his old company to get a comment, he didn't even work there anymore, and then he ended up in the trade magazine, so everyone he ever worked with we assume now knows, so even if there is no social media accounts could still be on Google somewhere sending all my love its not easy

Sorry, forgot, we googled his name too, its a common name and it wasn't recent so we mustn't have gone far enough to find it, you must be fine if you regularly check, I think the worst bit with us is the fact the media phoned a company he didn't even work for anymore, though he has had no comeback at his address, we don't live together, I really really hope things go well for you

Lee are they not allowed to print the offenders full address? In our local paper they printed my partners full address house number and everything! I was mortified and thought it shouldn't of been allowed because of our children.
