My world was ripped apart a couple of weeks ago. My dad was taken to the station after police had flagged up indecent images (3). He has told us and the police that the images were sent through a messaging app and he soon deleted the app after the images were sent.

He thinks he might now do the course for offenders available through Lucy faithful.

He is a wreck that this is happening and said he wants to be proactive and do something good. Im wondering will this do him any harm if it goes to court - almost like an admission of guilt? He did admit to receiving the images so I suppose he is guilty after viewing them. Or do you think there's more to the story than he's telling us? My mind is just all over the place at the minute and feel like I've no where to turn to.
Thanks for your help!

Your story resonates with me. My hubby was prosecuted for a very small number of indecent images also, none of which he had sought out but that had been sent to him through WhatsApp and Twitter. I look at the number of images and the time frame for the investigation and I tell myself that he was caught up in something bad, but that he's not a bad person. I can't see how doing any courses would look bad on your dad. Hopefully your investigating force will see this situation for exactly what it is. Sadly I'm our experience that wasn't the case and we went to court. But you have to stay strong through this.
sending love xx

Thank you both for your replies. I am finding this forum helpful and reading through other stories makes me feel less alone.

He said he wanted to do the course for himself never mentioned court etc - it was me that was thinking about that. He was sent the images in a chat - didn’t ask for them. He opened one and said he didn’t download it. Then deleted the app.

My mind is definitely on over drive today after a few ‘good’ days. I feel I’m really struggling today.

Hope - I’m so sorry you’ve been through this and went to court. I can’t even imagine. Do you mind me asking what your husband was sentenced to? X

Thank you so much lee! Those are really encouraging and kind words. I’ll have a look for stunned’s story thank you again!

I think he is being as honest as he can. (I hope). It will sound like an excuse to most but he genuinely has no idea how the internet works. We’ve always said it would get him in trouble (thinking he’d be scammed not this!) He said he downloaded kik after someone had told him about it and was in a chat with lots of people. He was then added to another group again with many people chatting and then some images were sent. He did view an image and then deleted the app afterward. The police are saying there were 3 images flagged so I don’t know if they’ve been sent in a file or something. Not sure how kik works myself. I think once he deleted the app he naively thought nothing more of it. I guess he was embarrassed but I only wish he’d spoke to us when it happened and we could’ve tried to help then. This all happened 8 months ago but the police came 2 weeks ago. They did clarify the images that were flagged were from February.

thanks again for your support x
