Hi helpneeded

Soory you find your self here

You do not make it clear the exact nature of the offence he was arrested for, but with crimes like these it is not as simple as if someone has stollen something form a shop.

It is normally the case that either an internet service provider or social media company will inform the polic that they have evidence that someone has either accessed or distributed IIOC or actively groomed a child over the internet. Upon receipt of this informtion the police will then investigate, for instance tracing the IP address and carrying out other enquiries behind the scenes. Once they are happy they have confirmed the correct person they need to arrest then they will apply for a search warrantl, sadly with these amount of crimes on the increase the notifications to the police sit in a holding pattern untill there is an officer free to investigate, they will then risk assess as to how quickly they have to act ( eg is there a child in danger)

The same goes for undercover decoys when the police pose as children. Once they identify an offender they have to trace them and this takes time.

hope this helps a little
