Hiya.

I was wondering how long the timeframes for cps are .

My hubby has a volunteer interview on 16/December.

Police have said to him average is 7 months but they have said hopefully back within 2-3 months.

Seen online should be back within 45 days.

Hello

The solicitor sent their documents to CPS and around 35 days later we received news that charges had been authorised. That was two months ago - nothing in the post yet confirming date for court.

We've been waiting since the end of February 2021. I used to think hurry up but now I think I half want it to never happen. xx

Hiya all.

Thank you for the comments.

It's like 2 sentences.

First one waiting for the police.

Second one waiting for cps.

Why the long wait time ????

Chelsea, I completely agree the waiting around is sometimes unbearable and just seems ridiculous from our point of view but like Lee said these cases are just not the high on the priority list. It is cruel in my eyes that the police mislead families and offenders into thinking certain timelines that they must know are utter lies xx

It seems to me that the time lag is (1) because of a lack of capacity to forensically examine phones, laptops etc because so many people are being arrested for these crimes and the number of devices and memory sticks people own that get seized, gets larger and larger over time, and (2) the huge backlog of court cases which has almost tripled since covid.

I understand that there are legal time limits intended to limit the time for those being investigated being in limbo, but the police appear to be getting around this by releasing under investigation (RUI), which doesn't start the clock, rather than charging immediately, and the crown appear to be getting away with unacceptable delays now by blaming covid and the need to prioritise more serious cases. Whatever the causes, this intolerable limbo means that those being investigated or awaiting trial are subject to bail conditions or social work conditions that seriously hamper/harm their lives and those of their families.

Hiya all.

Seems like it's always a waiting game. One minute they say you will hear back in 3 months but they get back to you in 7 months.

Now it's the next bit and God knows how long that will be before we hear from cps etc.

Just a waiting game and not good for mental health etc.

Surely to God the courts have got to take all this into account.
