At what point do you tell work? At arrest, at charge or when it goes to court?

legal advice was not to tell work at first questioning as no charges brought.
at what point will work suspend? Will it be immediately ? with or without pay until court? Or just immediate termination?
employment does not involve children

Hi folks

My husband felt he had to inform his employer once arrested and charged in case it appeared in the press or leaked out somehow. He was subject to a very rapidly called disciplinary procedure but decided to resign rather than be dismissed for bringing ( or potentially bringing) the firm into disrepute. However the firm did exhibit some concern for him as an individual and gave him a generous severance package.

I had to inform my employer on the day of the knock as I work with vulnerable adults. They have also been very supportive towards me as we have moved through the legal process. I know many people are not so fortunate. Unfortunately should I remain in post when my professional registration is due for renewal the enhanced search will show someone at my address is on the SOR so I have decided to draw a line under the situation and retire early. Again I know many folks are not in the position to do this and just count myself lucky to have a choice.

I know in schools if you do anything to breach your DBS then you have to inform them immediately - if the job requires enhanced DBS then check carefully xx. My ex was also told not to disclose to work and he resigned just before sentencing (which was then delayed). Wish you well xx

Is this still the case? I thought this had been removed and wouldn't flag on a DBS. I too work with vulnerable people so this has really concerned me. I did ask Stop it now helpline and they said nothing would flag on my DBS?

Unlock.org might be able to help. But I'm pretty sure that even if it did come up there is protection since you cannot be fired by association. There may be rules to disclose tho and if not done I guess disciplinary

Hi Ladies

No, no-one is trying to fire me. Work has been really supportive and for most of the time since the knock work kept me going. But I am now highly compromised and feel my professional judgement and competency have been severely dented as well as.my confidence in working closely with protective agencies. My professional body would be informed that someone on SOR shares my address and even though they could not refuse to renew my registration they would need to ask me some questions. And I really don't want to do that.

I have been supportive of my husband throughout this nightmare he brought down upon us. That is not to say I haven't felt angry, disgusted and brokenhearted by what he has done and the effect on our lives. My personal and professional values and ethics are one and the same and recovering from the damage will take a long time.

My husband didn't tell work at all , the first they heard was when I called to tell them he'd been imprisoned. (We'd been told to expect a suspended sentence). Then he was sacked of course.

BUT for him this was the most sensible approach. He knew he'd be sacked on the spot if he'd told them after arrest . So he just worked for as long as he could. This meant he had a good job and the routine/familiarity of it all for 18 months from arrest!!!! The aftermath of his employer finding out was messy, but he needed the job for those 18 months and wouldn't have done it any other way.

(Just to reassure you, he quickly found good alternative employment on release...there are employers out there who don't DBS check!)
