Hello,

curious to know if anyone who has a partner that has been convicted for communication with a decoy/child, has had restrictions placed on where they can live in relation to things like schools?

There is a primary school at the end of our road, and I'm wondering if if will be an issue post sentencing. The police had no issue when he lived here before our daughter was born, but just trying to plan

I had an conversation with my husbands offender manager last week about moving.

This applies to England only, not sure about Scotland. Wales may be similar to England

He said that unless the SHPO has restrictions on where you can live the police cannot prevent you from living anywhere when you are on the SOR. They may question it, may consider the risk higher but they cannot force you to move.

If you want to move whilst under probation then probation will first check out the location, and they may consider it unsuitable.

What probation would do if they considered where someone already lived unsuitable when they got a suspended sentence I do not know. They could prevent them from moving into that property when released from prison however.

SHPO restrictions must be relevant to the offense so if the communication was an internet offence it is very unlikely that he would be given location restrictions.

Unless you live out in the countryside it's almost impossible to live that far from a school they are everywhere. What you might want to consider is how comfortable you would all feel living there is the news became public and how much grief you would get. If you don't get many walking past your house on their way to from school and you are not overlooking the school you there is unlikely to be an issue.

A rather well known offender / murder who was recently released on parole and then returned to prison was placed in a parole hostel with schools and nursery's down the road! Much to the outcry of the locals, but shows it is almost impossible to avoid schools.

My husbands previous offender managed commented once when we were talking about schools that one person he manages lives close to a school and he gets conplaints weekly from the public, so that is something to consider.

You could also call the unlock helpline as they should be able to give more advise.
