Pre sentencing done, now another 4 weeks till next court date (it will be a 21 month wait by then).
My family member has unconditional bail and will have a probation officer before court date.
My question is what is the probation officers role? Do they offer help to offenders? Can they assist with Mental Health referrals or appropriate courses etc. Do they assess whether the offender is a risk to the public?. Do they submit a report?
Sorry for all the questions. Thought I'd seek help from you lovely lot.
First offence (although a pretty serious one) charges are 89 pics across ABC + 1 distribution. We are all preparing for the worse hoping for the best.
Hope everyone is holding up ok

A probation officer essentially monitor offenders rehabilitation and compliance with court restrictions e.g. SOR, SHPO and community service.
They do write up a report about once a year on risk level (risk of reoffending). They can help seek out training and other support.
My partner had to see his once a week for about a year and then every two weeks for another year. They also work with the police liason.
Probation are only in the lives of offenders whilst they undergo their sentence (including suspended). Then if still on SOR and or SHPO it's the police that monitor.

Now another 'short' wait until we are hopefully on the other side of this mess, preparing for the worst, hoping for the best

Thank you, same to you.
Just can't believe we are in this position, I'm managing to keep my anxiety down but it creeps in at night where I just worry about whats to come and the fear of people finding out.
Stay strong everyone
