Further Delay - a bit of a rant

Just had a call from the Criminal Justice Social Work team. His pre-sentencing report is still unfinished and we are now looking at the third delay to sentencing. Team manager says she is sorry but cannot control staff sickness. Seems like we haven't had any control over anything since this nightmare began 16 months ago. Feels like everyday is harder and I am SO sick of the whole thing, angry at just about everyone, including myself.

Okay, just keep breathing.

Sorry, just had to have a wee rant.

Hi Judith

I am so sorry to hear that this will be delayed for a third time - surely there should be a limit to how many delays one case can have. You are very entitled to have a rant and I really feel for you as some many delays seems very unfair. As you say we have no control over any aspect of this process which is very stressful indeed.

I hope you get a new date soon and this time they stick to it.

Thinking of you x

The whole system is just an absolute joke! I hope they take into consideration all the time they've spent faffing around when it comes to sentencing. Big hugs xx

Oh Judith, how very very frustrating, especially when the report was seemingly ready but not sent at the last delay. I find the living in limbo of the unknowns one of the hardest things about this situation, it must be so hard to be so close, so many times, I really hope the report is completed quickly and the new date is soon.

Thank you ladies. A benefit of yesterday's shenanigans (that's a good word) was that I slept like a log, something that very rarely happens. Today we start over, resigned to at least another month of waiting for a Court date. The solicitor will make the Court aware that we have been proactive in chasing the pre sentencing report and that the continued delays have resulted in more stress and financial penalties for us.

Hope you are all keeping well.

Judith this dragging out of the case is not funny. It's bad enough the months/years waiting for a hearing but constant delays between conviction and sentencing must be purgatory. Hoping the next given date actually goes ahead so you get to pass another milestone of this gruesome process.

Hi Judith how long have you been waiting for the PSR? Have they given you another date yet? Just wondering how much notice they give you when a date is given? X

Hi Jayjay

The pre sentencing report was requested by the Court on 21/12/21. It is a statutory report that should be completed within 28 days. I should say we are in Scotland so I don't know if things are different down south. So last week we were told the person completing the report is off sick so they would be applying for a third postponement of sentencing. Today we had a message from our solicitor saying he had spoken with the Criminal Justice Team and they hoped to get the report to the Court tomorrow, so sentencing should go ahead Monday after all. 10 minutes later we received an email from Criminal Justice saying they wouldn't have the report finished , very sorry etc.

Nothing surprises me anymore.

I'm sorry to hear you've had yet another delay. Fingers crossed it is done very quickly and you can move onto the next stage, whatever that might be. It must be frustrating and exhausting.

Now my partner has pleaded guilty I'm in that stage of waiting and one of the few things giving me light is that in a months time there will be a lot less uncertainties, even if I know there is likely to be a very big heart break.
