Afternoon all,

I have a couple.of questions for those of you who have loved ones in prison.

My son is on remand sentancing in the next few weeks so not sure where he will be moved to as yet

Are the prisons shared cells or single?

In regards to food where he is they have the cooked meal (if you can call it that) at 11.30 in the morning is it the same in prison? How does the canteen work where they order there own things also if they need clothes etc do they have access to a catalogue so they can select what they need?

These are just a couple of things I wanted to find out for him as his experience on remand has been shocking ( I know it's not meant to be by no means an easy place but I just hope it will be an improvement) x

Thank you Smile and yes I knew you would offer some good advice x

My son has an eating disorder so is limited to what he does eat so has been living off chocolate and tinned sausages ( not together thankfully :-) )

Oh for him to have a slice of toast and scrambled eggs!

I think after sharing he just wants his own space other people's habits drive him insane

yes I send money and finally managed to get clothes brought in for him but he will need other clothes when he is sentanced and moved x

Hi upset mum

Just seen your post. My partner has been on remand for 9 months so far, still haven't received a sentencing date either :(.

The experience in yours sons prison sounds exactly the same as my partners. From what I remember him telling me about when he's moved, I think they have double and single cells and they don't get a choice :( I think the canteen is pretty much the same aswell.
sending hugs at this hard time xx

Hi Nas,

Thank you for your reply x

Remand is awful isn't it he has had so many issues and not because of what he is in for as he is on a VP wing

How long have you got to wait for sentencing? My sons is next week x

Hi upset mum

My partner is on the VP wing aswell but the prison itself is terrible.
We haven't got a sentencing date. The court have said he won't receive a date he will just get told at 6 in the morning on the day :(. He had a sentencing date back in October but a psychiatrist report wasn't printed so they cancelled it.
You must feel a little bit of relief knowing that you will finally get an end date as from next week, happy for you lovely. I feel like my partner is in there for life at the moment :( xx

Depends where you are. My OH has been in two places and both have had a similar regime. Hot meal which is classed as lunch at around 11.30 am then cold food (more like a sandwich or similar) around 4.30pm. They can buy snacks like choc bars, fruit etc. They get a little pack of cereal or light breakfast thing with tea and coffee each morning. Hard to be healthy, but you can do it if you pick carefully once you know the menu.

Cells are more often double than single due to overcrowding, but may depend on area. But I think most prisons across the country are overcrowded atm.
