Anyone have a loved one who has been on North Sea Camp recently? It's a category D prison, my OH has just got his cat D status and is considering whether it would be worth the move. From what I can read online it seems only 1/3 get a job and it is perhaps quite an old facility.
But wondered if anyone has any more recent info on what it's like, as the latest report was done in 2021 during covid lockdown.

North sea camp is just on the edge of a town called Boston in Lincolnshire. It's a large town. surrounding the town it is largely rural with lots of farming. Skegness isn't to far away being only 35 miles away.
With anywhere at the moment people are finding it hard to find jobs which will be especially harder as alot of jobs available at the moment need an enhanced DBS.

This charity is really helpful and full of advice and support, I have had phone calls and met in person with these as they deal with the prison my partner is in.

I can't comment on the prison but I did a Google and was interested to read what Category D and open prisons mean. I read that they could come home for a few days a month? How long did it take for your partner to get his category D?

Yes as you say, with the way things stand currently I couldn't take advantage of such visits. But also my understanding is that they only visit for the day and therefore the distance would mean it would be half a day travelling and panicking about getting back in time as they still sleep there.
It has taken him 6 months to become cat D and he started as cat C. You have to put an application together about why you feel you are cat D etc, I think. Unless I'm getting confused with enhanced, as he has also applied for that.
