Hey, hope everyones doing okay today.

Im just wondering if those whos loved ones have been sent to prison can share their experiences of what happened afterwards, things like how long you took time off work after the sentencing and how you managed to get back to your "normal" routine. I feel like I need to be off work more so to support my mum (my brother is the one getting sentenced at the end of this month). I know everyones situation is different Im just trying to get an idea of what to expect and how to prepare ourselves really.
Sending everyone a hug x

Hi,

I took a month off after arrest as partner was remanded. I went back on a phased return for two weeks but once I'd gone back I increased my hours fairly rapidly because it kept me sane. Was on maternity when he was sentenced but he got a suspended sentence so can't really advise much on how long I would have needed if it had been a custodial. I think all lines of communication were established within a month of him being arrested and that does make things easier once you or your mom are able to hear his voice and know he is safe and well. I suppose it will depend on whether you book time off or are signed off with stress as to how long you can take really. If you are signed off you have the option to get a fit note and go back sooner if you feel able to. I hope that you are all as well as can be xx

I had 2 months off at the knock

i didn't take time off after sentencing. My boss knew the situation but I needed normality etc.

Not sure if that was right or not

It has to be right for you and your situation etc and how you feel and other factors. Take care

Thank you all for your lovely replies, unfortunately Ive been told I cant have the time off after his sentencing (apart from the day after) due to the place being understaffed. I understand where theyre coming from but I cant help feeling rather let down as they told me earlier this month that I can have time off if I need it.
Maybe itll be best to get straight back to "normal" whatever the sentence will be for my brother xxx

It's very difficult to plan especially when dates get changed by the court system. My work don't know anything that has happened.

As Dafodil say, if you need to you can get signed off sick.

I plan to get signed off sick after sentencing. I could really have done with it a couple of months ago, my performance at work hasn't been good, while work has been a welcome distraction at times, I don't feel fully emersed in it and am constantly slightly distracted - I don't feel that I'm making good decisions or able to think strategically. But I feel I can only be sick once and for me I think it will be best for me once he's sentenced.
