How is this right? I know that these people get sentenced depending on their case and is all dependent on the Judge. But just look at these examples of people in position of trust, bar the musician.

Hi

i think one thing you have to remember is we don't see all the facts of the cases and all the aggravating and mitigating circumstances. The media don't report everything. And what they do report can sometimes be inaccurate!

Yes there are a lot of variations. But every case is different. And then yes - every judge is different.

Hi. - I closely listen and read sentences given to sex offenders. You come across cases where children have been assaulted for years by a person or even an adult rape and they got less than my son did. It seems so unfair and you wonder what planet these judges are on!

But I do agree with Lee/Scared you don't see the ins and out of these cases and as we know how callas the media is as it sensationalises these stories beyond belief. I now never believe 100% what I reads/see in the media.

From my partners case I would note that newspapers do not always report accurately, or include all details. Even if they do, not all the details will be read out in court. So it's impossible to know if you are comparing like for like.

Secondly, some offences have quite a range of possbile sentences, and factors which can reduce or increase the sentence. Including a discount for an early guilty plea.

Thirdly, I think it just depends on the Judges mood on the day, whether he has a hangover, whether he likes/dislikes the defendant or his represetative, whether he has bothered to actually read and analyse all the reports. As noted due to the guidelines there is usually quite a range. For sentences of 2 years and under it is under the Judges total discretion to suspend it or not.
