I see the shops that we are able to buy things for prisoners. It says its for purchasing books. Can you buy other things, such as paper and envelops for them from these shops?

They get provided envelopes and writing sheets and can send 2 letters free of charge a week.

Additional stationary can be bought from the canteen every week.

You can purchase books also through amazon which I was told today and as I have prime it means I don't have to pay the postage.

There will also be a library in prison.

What is and isn't allowed to be sent in will very much depend on what entitlement they are allowed. But what is and isn't allowed will be explained to him during his induction.

My partner wanted a radio (he is remanded 2 months now) and he had to order that through the canteen himself, which they are getting from argos for him. But I can't buy and send it in for him.

SAL also look at a website called emailaprisoner

You write a letter online it and it get printed off at the prison and then delivered to him takes around 2 days for him to get it.

It works out cheaper than a second class stamp 40p to write and you have to option too of adding a reply sheet for 25p which he will get a sheet of paper with a QR code which he writes on. Hands it back it then gets scanned and sent as an email to you to your email a prisoner account.

I read one of your other posts saying he was sentenced this week. I am soty to hear that!

Things take time and he will have an induction into the prison which lasts about a week so you probably won't hear from him as they also have to set up his prison phone and he has to request the numbers that he can ring. The prison will then phone the numbers and do a security check asking if you wish to be called on the number. Landline numbers are much much cheaper for them to ring and I've just got a landline ssoissons doesn't cost him so much.

I've been here 8 weeks now my partner is remanded in prison with trial not till Jan 2023

Anything else I can try and help answer just ask.

Hi Sal,

If you go on to the Gov site to search the prison he is in then go on to prison website that will give you a list of approved book retailers that you can order from to send directly in to the prison x

When you order put the delivery address of the prison then the receiver details Hubbys name and prison number (hope that makes sence)

I also do send money to a prisoner again website this is really quick and paid to there account within 3 days xx

Hope you are doing ok x

Thanks for the responses. I've found out the shops I can buy books from, he's currently study (was before he entered) and needs paper but the catalogue /kiosk hasn't been set up yet, so I was wondering if I could buy things from the approved shops and whether he'd recieve them.

I've sent emails but they are read at the kiosk and he doesn't get very long on them at all so hasn't been able to read them.

It's only been 10 days so I'm perhaps being impatient. I've had a letter and we've spoken briefly on the phone twice. I feel in such a confusing situation, emotionally regarding our relationship I don't know how I feel, I don't feel he was honest and now look at much of our relationship differently, I don't know when or how we'll be able to talk about this. But practically I want to help him - I think that's what I'm doing anyway, just concentrating on practical things that will help him whilst I try to figure things out. I've sent some money too him and signed up for prisoner voicemail.

Nevergoingtobethesame that is such a long wait for a trial!

My advice would be to support him in a practical way (as you are doing) and let the rest unfold. Not ideal but he's safe, well fed and watered and it's time for you to 'try' to focus on yourself and gather strength.

I ordered from WHSmith and had my details as billing address and delivery was his name and prison number next to name and the prison address, he got them within a week and was really easy. You need to check where you can order from as I know you can't from Amazon. Xxx
