Just has a call from my son and it was heartbreaking to hear him talk how he doesn't think he will cope in prison and he fears for his life he is seeing a mental health nurse once a week I try to be positive and because he was attacked at the weekend by another prisoner this has made him worry more my heart is breaking right now we are only at the start of this very long journey as he is on remand and have a court date but no pre sentence report has been done I know many of you have walked the steps I'm walking right now so any advice is very much welcome xxx

Hello,

My ex is currently in prison. He has never felt at risk as he is on the vp wing. Being on remand is tricky as they will usually be in a cat a/b which are most secure.

If you have concerns call safer custody at the prison. The more logs regarding his emotional well-being the more notice they will take.

He can request to move wings/cells but this is ultimately up to the prison.

The feeling of helplessness is the worst.

Following sentencing he should be given a risk level and then he can apply to move prison (or they may just move him). It took a few weeks to process for us.

X

Hi Livuk - after sentencing he was moved after about three weeks (and that included the Christmas period).

As other have said he should not feel unsafe that's not right, is he on VP wing? He should be so check that out and I would email the prison governor and tell them your concerns and what has happened to your son so far as they have a duty of care. Xxx
