Hello.

Random question about living near a school.

Can visor/probation ask you to move if you live next to a school.

If the house is in somebody's else's name and other halve lives there can there ask you to move.

The only way you can be forced to move by Visor is if there are geographical restrictions on the SHPO. SOR is nothing but a notification requirement. You do not even need to tell them the address before you move just within 3 days after moving.

Probation are unlikely IMO to force a move if not a custodial. If a custodial then the address would need to be approved before release from prison. My husband is past this stage now, when he moved back home probation had to agree to it and wanted to talk to me to ensure that I was aware of all the facts etc.

I had a long chat with my husbands offender manager last time he came to visit about moving and he said even if we moved next door to a school there was nothing they could actually do. Though, it would be frowned upon for sure and likely something would be said. Having lived near in a school in the past I would never want to do it again, came home from work once early to find someone parked in my driveway waiting to collect their kid from school and they refused to move!!

Whether you do or don't decide to inform them of more than is required is up to you and how you want that relationship with probation and visor to be. There is a lot to be said for being transparent and upfront.

I'm glad you asked this as I was wondering the same. We live close to a school and i was worried they would ask us to move.

Hiya Lee.

The house was given to me by my late mum. So changed the house with deeds etc.

We where waiting on house details efc before the move.

We didn't think it was a problem because we have moved and the court case is over 300 miles away so if reported in another part of the country then it would be their.

Hi Chelsea,

I own our house but my partner will be coming home to live with me.

There's a school literally four doors down from our front door. There's nothing in my partners SHPO about children, it's all internet based so they can't enforce a move.

I asked our SW about it and she was adamant it didn't matter about the school.

Try not to worry, unless there was something particular about them meeting or having actual contact with a child or even taking pictures of a child...you shouldn't get that pushed.
