I'm not sure if I want to know the answer to this question but it's been something worrying me since the day my partner was arrested.

My partner was using a link he was given to access an online storage folder that contained the iioc, the folder isn't his, he was given the link online.

I'm just worrying if the police could charge him with everything in the folder even though he doesn't own it or have any administrative rights over it? My partner says he hasn't looked at everything in the folder so has no idea how much or what catagory the images there are.

The police know about the folder as he had the link written down on his phone.

Hey,

That is an interesting one! I'm not sure they could charge for possession as it wouldn't fit the criteria and I don't think there is a charge for viewing? The only thing is if the images which have been viewed happen to download a thumbnail or something into the phone perhaps this could be classed as possession or making? I really don't know but I guess it's the same as when people look at it on a computer but don't save the images? What would that be chargeable for?

Hi Baffled,

Yeah I'm really unsure of where we stand regarding this. I would assume they couldn't charge him with everything in the folder, only what they can prove he viewed. But it's worried me since the day he was arrested as we don't know everything that's on it and how bad it could be.

I know there will be a charge for possession and probably making as images from the link were found on his phone which he said he didn't mean to download as he wasn't sure how the site worked but it was a small number of images. I've just been worried that they could end up charging him with every photo in the folder even though it's not his folder and there could be hundreds of things on there for all we know.

Hi Lee,

Thank you for the advise, it definitely makes me feel a bit of relief. He just had the actual link to the folder saved on his phone but the folder was an online storage account made by someone else, no apps downloaded or anything like that.

Kik are a nightmare for safeguarding purposes they automatically delete messages from the app (or However it works). However, in our case the police approached Kik (based in USA) to see what was stored on their server. They did find the conversations my ex had had on there and the images he had shared. So although they allegedly 'disappear' in some cases they can be traced.

Further to what I've previously said about Kik, it does indeed delete everything when the app is deleted and it's very unlikely things can be recovered but in some cases bits of data can end up being copied into files deep in the phone which can be found upon further digging. That's also interesting they approached Kik themselves for information! I think it's very hit and miss but not as anonymous and slippery as people think.

I asked a few forensics companies could they find info relating to a username or conversations after Police forensics failed to find it and they said it's unlikely which is where I've got my info from btw.

Very interesting our family member has been accused of viewing on the kik app no mention of downloading ...I did read an article from a newspaper online a barrister told a court that kik doesn't keep any uploads on its servers obviously I don't know if that's right
