Hello all,

One of the orders following sentencing was a 28 week Horizon course, my husband has only just been given his starting date as apparently there was a delay due to Covid etc. Has anyone any knowledge of how this course operates I.e is a group meeting or one to one and how much of his personal history and offence has to be disclosed in front of others?

Thank you so much Lee, that's really reassuring to know. He has been anxious to start the course so hopefully he will enjoy it too. I know he is so determined to put this behind him (your husband sounds like he has the same commitment) and wants to move forward. Thank you again. Love and best wishes xxxx

Hi guys, are course sessions in the daytime or on a weekend? Trying to work out if my partners course will disrupt work or family contact time

Thank you again Lee for the reference to Russ Harris, I've just read an extract from his book The Happiness Trap, it's very interesting and I agree it would help all going through this trauma. I am definitely going to order a copy, even though I am having CBT this will be useful for further reference for both of us when the CBT finishes.xxx

Hi pregnantandscared,

My husbands sessions are in the evening and will run for 28 weeks, as Lee will probably confirm they have to be attended and if they are missed he has to provide concrete evidence of absence I.e a medical note etc..

Meant to say we are based in the North West and he was sentenced in December and starting Horizon this week so given there are long waiting lists he hasn't had to wait too long. Xxx

Lee, I will let you know if my husband is told the same, they have already given some instructions in his invitation letter but so am interested now how breaching would be managed as you say given it is a court order. Xxx

Lee you made me smile with your typo's but got the gist of what you mean! I would imagine anyone breaching would have to go back to court and explain to a judge why they've either not attended or been thrown off the course. My husband has just told me it's next week he starts not this week (it's probation this week). I will definitely keep you informed of what he is told. Xxx

Hi Katie and Lee,

thanks for your quick responses! We are also NW based and he has his assessment for the course with probation this week (sentencing was only two weeks ago!)

He has 30 RAR days and as he's paying for therapy via StopSO they've said this can count towards it. They've said after his Horizon assessment he'll go on the list but it might not be needed because he's completed Safer Lives course and has been in therapy for over a year.

Court didn't mandate the Horizon course, just the 30 days so probation said they'd reassess when a space becomes free for the course. Seems strange but for now we won't question it, just wanted to know if it would disrupt the daily routine as we have a small child who is settled with seeing him every night x
