I know it is highly unlikely, but something has been bugging me for a couple of weeks, so thought I'd ask here and see what others had experienced.
Has anyone on here had the knock, but in the end not had any charges made?

Hi mum of 3 were the images stored on his phone are family member says he deleted kik about 7 months ago and never stored anything on his phone
He deleted the images off his phone but obviously forensics were able to locate them.
Is viewing classed as downloading as in the kik app ..if anyone knows
Downloading would be classed as making Rick which if they can find downloading of images it would also mean possession as well. I've seen a couple of your posts and can tell you are very worried for your friend/family member. I hope you're ok x
Yes very worried baffled b it all seems so confusing what you can be charged for or not like I say he said he deleted the app 7 months ago and never stored anything on his phone the police just said he had been reported for viewing indecent images on kik now as far as I can research mostly on here and Google etc I still can't really get to bottom of it no arrest just under investigation so far .... any help would be massively appreciated thanks
From what I've seen on here alot are saying there just screen shots which they have as evidence I think what happens is is the contents of a device are copied onto a computer so that's maybe why they look like a screen shot they don't go through you device it gets copied so they can see certain files without going through everything
Bless you Rick, it's not nice being in this situation and especially whilst waiting for the evidence because you have no idea what you're actually working with. Normally the way Police "get" people through Kik is when they have given a mobile number linked to them or actual information about themselves, it is possible perhaps that images could have alerted the internet provider who then contacted the Police. My partner had the Kik app and it was deleted prior to forensics and nothing came from the search but say my partner had taken part in conversations and sent Live pictures or his mobile number or anything even remotely identifying this can then be used to build a case by using screenshots from the decoy's side, whether the CPS decides to proceed with the case is "luck". What I would say is if charges do come, not to panic necessarily until you've seen the evidence but hopefully it won't come to that.
Also, a lot of people admit guilt in the first interview or at their plea that they were involved in conversations which obviously then makes them guilty - even if they genuinely didn't believe the decoy was underage or understand it was illegal. There's a lot of factors which contribute towards outcomes of cases but I will admit the majority on here aren't ones to help ease your nerves. Big hugs x
Thanks baffled b no idea what can be found I can't see a phone saving all the images there just wouldn't be the memory space it wasn't an iPhone just a standard andriod nothing special
So they never got anything off the kik app ..thanks for your help baffled b
You're welcome, anything which is contained in the Kik app, once deleted is pretty impossible to find. Look after yourself and I hope your family member is ok x
Thanks Lee 1969 he says he didn't download and hasn't deleted any images as there were none there unless he couldn't find them I assume you can only delete if they have been downloaded
Not arrested as yet under investigation I assume to find evidence
There is an option in the Kik app to automatically save stuff to your phone which when I downloaded my old account back was switched off so I assume that is the standard because I never purposely switched it off. So if people have sent stuff in a chat and the setting was off then it should not be able to be found in the phone but as Lee said the tech companies can sometimes be involved and another user on another thread said the Police contacted Kik directly to get the info from their servers. It's hit and miss but usually they cannot retrieve anything done within the app once the app has been deleted.

Thanks lee1969 yes deleted 7 months ago like you say mush have been reported I know if you say watch a video on YouTube it doesn't download it it does have some fragments but if you use your phone alot for watching stuff it soon gets overwritten as it can't keep everything but yes it does seem a long time they obviously got some information and have to follow it up they did say he was low priority and just mentioned viewing but I don't really know what that means ..thanks so much

Thanks very much lee1969 and baffled b for your help as you say it's hit and miss I worked with the military police for about a year when I was in the army nearly 30 years ago and I remember all they ever wanted was to charge guys with anything they could that was there main purpose or it looked like it so I've always worked on the theory that the police will do anything to get a conviction...I've read alot about decoys on here and vigilante stuff from what I can see the police go quite hard on that stuff but it always seems a bit jubius to me saying things on the Internet doesn't mean it's all true
