I completely understand how you feel, I felt the exact same way when my partner was arrested. I remember him coming home with all the bail paperwork and reading through it, seeing his name on that sheet was so hard to come to terms with, seeing the surname I always thought I would take one day written on something like that really did break my heart. I think it was more so the realisation hitting me that I was never going to take that last name anymore, the realisation that everything we'd planned and wanted in life was ruined. It's so heartbreaking and I wouldn't wish this experience on my worst enemy x

Hi Polly,

Yep, it's so hard. I found/still find it hard to read my partner's name on official things. For me it's the lack of his name on birthday cards and Christmas cards to my family that I find harder and the gap on our daughters birth certificate where his name should be. Your son is still all the good memories you have and you will make more. This does not define our loved ones. Sending love and hugs xx

It's awful and so sad x

My son will take on my maiden name once he is released from prison ( we have ages to go)

It's not to hide what he has done but just to allow him to rebuild xx

Sending hugs x

Good afternoon Upset.

when your son changes his name will that be officially? How do you go about changing your name?

i don't think my son realises how difficult life could be for him if he keeps his name. My husband only uses his birth name on official documentation and it's never been a problem. Wonder if you could do that with your surname.

Hi Smile

Hope you are doing ok x

Hows your son?

Yes you can change by deed poll it dosent cost much I will check the correct website address for you x

For our sons the governor of the prison has to approve as it needs to be witnessed and also they need to notify the police for when they sign on the SOR etc once home and also the Visor again dosent hide the crime but just gives them a chance to rebuild they will be able to change bank accounts., driving licence etc xx

Ah thanks - I'll have a look, perhaps a thing to sort out in the future.

No gardening today - that was no surprise - excuse given short staffed (same old, same old)........

Our surname is distinctive so my son changed it, on his solicitor's advice, prior to being charged. It still gives me a jolt when post arrives for him in his new name - horrible feeling.
