To my friends with a loved one in prison.
My son said the food in the prison he is at is awful with curry most days - mostly like water. Portions are minimal and the workers that queue up last get the left over scraps!
Most food is thrown away and the men live on their canteen snacks. I think this is appalling! Whats experiences in other prisons?

I'm sorry to hear this, I can talk from experience when I say - It's a horrible helpless feeling we find ourselves in. That doesn't sounds nice and so wasteful - I might be, being dim here, but you'd think if everyone was doing it they would change... Such a naive comment though.
My partners main complaint about the food is that he doesn't get enough fruit or vegetables and that its very carbs heavy - Rice, with a potato curry and bread one day. He's purchased vitamins to make sure he gets enough goodness and has worked out what are the better options to ensure he gets enough fruit and veg and what are good meals he can top up with the canteen. From what he says he gets served, I don't think he can be getting enough calories from the meals alone - He'd lost a lot of weight when I saw him.
I was shocked to hear that because he works in the afternoon, his afternoon /evening meal, (which is the only hot one he gets) , is delivered whilst he is at work and has to eat it cold when he's back.
He also doesn't get yard time because he's working, so doesn't get his mandatory 30 in daylight a day.

He said blokes cook noodles etc in their kettles...... salad consists of lettuce & cucumber (only) and you get a serving of one potato only. He said you wouldn't give your dog some of the slop....,
how I'd live to cook him a roast dinner with all the trimmings.....

Yes, I think the description of a salad is a bit elaborate, I can't remember what he said it consisted of but it certainly didn't seem enough to be a meal.
I often find myself cooking things and thinking how much I'd like to cook for him. Wondering if I'm still in his life upon release what the first thing is he'll want to eat, what he'll want to cook, what I'll cook for him.

My lad would want a nice steak, fried egg and huge pile of chips!
