My son was arrested and released on bail last September. He has had his bail date extended 3 times now, yesterday he was told extended yet again till September 2022. I was under the impression that it can't be extended again after that so what will happen in September and why do they keep extending it

I don't know did sure, but noticed you hadn't yet had a response, but I believe once they can no longer extend bail, the release them under investigation RUI

Sorry if I sound stupid but to keep extending bail does that mean they still haven't had time to check his devices. At the start they said they had 4 Cat A's and a video. I was also told that bail couldn't be extended for more than a year, so is this incorrect? Also does this mean that they won't contact him again till September or can they turn up at any time and charge him. X

My partner /ex partner was on bail for 16 months before we found out it was going to trial. I know it's so frustrating the not knowing. You asked does this mean they haven't checked his divices, obviously I don't know the answer and can only speak from my experience in my partners case they had checked his divices almost a year before, so about 3 months after he was arrested, but all cases will be different and take different amounts of time. We have he had bail extended by the magistrates because he gave a full interview admitting fault (without a solicitor and is a young person but had JUST turned 18. I will never, ever trust the police ever again)

Our solicitors said no point appealing because it will get extended just on that (it did). So we will be at 9 month's on bail when it is up. I am not expecting, and neither are the police, that he will be answering bail on that date. We are waiting for device forensics, the rest of the investigation is complete according to the extension application papers.
