What was their reaction?

I know everyone is different with varying relationships with their family but I'd be interested to hear how you approached disclosure and what the reaction was please?
Also, did you do it from arrest or did some time go by before you disclosed? x

Told both sets of parents on the day they needed to come over and told them both straight. His said they were disgusted but they loved him. Mine wouldn't be in the same place as him for weeks. Eventually they were and are supporting each other.
told 2 friends face to face who I thought may be supportive but seems to have cut us out of their lives. No idea how people will react x

I told my family a few days before the initial majestrates hearing which was about 6 months after the knock. I'd held off as I didn't want them to go through my stress but knew I needed to tell them in case it reached the papers.
My parents were lovely. Very angry but supportive. My brother and my eldest doesn't want to see him again and we work around that.
on the day of crown court which is distance from us I had to drive him there. I didn't go into court but my mum came and supported me with a mum and daughter shopping day to keep my mind off things. He got a suspended sentence.
im glad I told them. It hit the papers (luckily no impact) but at least I'd had some control over a tiny piece of the situation.
I would recommend telling your very closest family so that they don't learn anything in the press and at least if their friends found out through the press they'd be prepared.
it's really difficult but from my experience worth it. Just think about what and how you tell them.
good luck with whatever decision you make.
