I have just read about deactivating social media ect and as my person is not on fb I am.. I am leaving my home to live elsewhere and wondering is it necessary for me to have to delete my account. We live in a small quiet area and I don't mix with many people so haven't really got many friends or enemies so to speak. I'm not sure what to do.

Morning Barb,

Until your case goes to court I wouldn't worry much yet. Its to protect you from the press and weirdos if it gets reported on in the media.

I will be deactivating everything nearer the time, but have already stopped posting.

You perhaps don't need to do it now, but I'd suggest doing it as soon as charges are received, it takes a few weeks to a couple of months for things to disappear from Google search. On Instagram and Facebook there is a check box to ensure your profile and its content doesn't show on Internet searches, but others, like LinkedIn is shown on Google searches and even if you deactive it, the profile would still show on Google as would images.

My understanding is that when articles are published people (possibly media too) would dig around and try and find out more information about the person, anything that might make it the story sound worse - This is when they'd look into jobs, family ties, hobbies etc and of course when people may directly contact offenders family.

You don't have to delete social media. Most have a temporary deactivation.

Sorry for sounding dumb but is this necessary even if I am not with him anymore and have moved out?

Morning,

I have chosen not to delete my Facebook account. I made this decision because I felt like I'd lost enough due to his actions. I did delete any pictures of him from my account pretty much as soon as he was arrested. He was sentenced the same week that I gave birth and it was in the media and on Facebook the day after I had our daughter. The article made reference to our unborn child and I believe the police/visor had the original article removed and removed from Facebook too. I didn't see the Facebook article or comments, mainly because I was preoccupied and I think it was removed quickly. I believe the reporter acted outside of their code as it made my daughter identifiable. Anyway that's probably enough rambling, I've only ever had one friend request from someone he used to work with and I didn't accept it so have no idea if it was to be nosey or nasty. I think you need to do what's right for you and make sure you're prepared mentally for the worst case scenario. You could always temporarily deactivate it and have a two month break to see if it hits the media xx

Hi,

I didn't delete my fb, I deleted all the people I thought may ask questions or be chappy with me, but honestly I have had no trouble with it, we were in the media, it literally lasted a week if that, we are 2 years post sentence. Some of school friends asked another of my close friends how I was all positive than negative and some people I deleted re added because they no neither of us are bad people, some people understand good people make bad decisions xx

Lost do you have anymore information or advise on removing images from Google. It seems that the reason "I simply don't want them to show" isn't an option.

I deleted fb as soon as we got the knock. I do feel sad I lost contact with quite a few friends but I couldn't cope with any extra stress it might have caused.

I don't regret it and to be honest not missed it....

Hi Smile

It's awful they can do that if they printed the truth it would still be crap but the lies and the way they worded it honestly was so far from the actual truth

Hope you are doing ok xx
