No where in any court proceeding was the P word used surely this is a breach in the rules of reporting a casse to sensationally up the HEADLINE
please i need advise this is causing so much pain to have this dragged on 3 days later

Hello! As a journalist here, you can challenge this.
contact the editor and make it clear that word was never used in court and you were in attendance so can verify this. Also add the clear definition of the word paedophile, which is the clinical preference for children above all else. Ask have they had your son clinically assessed to be able to use this term?
The only flag I have is that they may not take down the article but might change it to 'Pervert' or something they deem less offensive. If they do that, challenge it again.
Also contact the Press Complaints Commission and let the editor know you don't believe they are following legal code of conduct.
Sorry the press in your area have twisted this so much. As a journalist I hate it because ultimately it paints all of us in a bad light.

Thank you do much for replying so quickly .... I am definately going to challenge this as feel it was completely unnecessary ... to see this on a board outside a local petrol station is just gratuitously sensationalising it ...
Hugs to all xx

Lee, paedophilia is a psychiatric disorder and means they are exclusively attracted to children. That's why I've highlighted it, as then it can be highlighted to the editor in a similar way to when a reporter covers mental health conditions and can't just put 'mentalist' or 'mad'.
The point about ages is a good one, and is worth including provided the iioc your partner accessed aren't in that age bracket.
By saying it's just a sexual attraction to children, you'd be hard pushed to get the word removed as the prosecution will highlight that the defendant has a sexual interest in children or that the police believe he does. Definitely push it down the clinical route as the press have no recourse to argue.

I seen an article a few days ago which stated the word 'pervert', did say of all the work the guy did and he pleaded guilty, wee young fella too bless him had a pic and everything, it really shouldn't be allowed, this wee fella was charged with iioc and communication with decoy, they way they made it sound was terrible, I coukdnt help thinking of his poor family and he's so young and has the rest of his life, he originally got a prison sentence but won an appeal because wasn't represented in first trail properly. I'm sure he and his family just want to move on then this all over the local Internet rag and paper for all to see. He was only a kid , it really shouldn't be alound, how is ruining someone's life after they've been punished enough on the public Intrest I'll never know
Hi Newlady, I know it's hard but there are reasons the press have to report it.
I explained it on another thread by Pretty Polly.
Constant persecution is wrong but stating the facts of the case ans what the court outcome is is standard reporting and has to be done.

Hi Lee, no offence was meant. We are all aware of what the word means.
I re-edited my post to be clear that if it could be highlighted as a psychiatric case then the paper will have to reconsider the use of their language in line with how they report on mental health - which also comes with legal sanctions.
