Hi,

Does anyone have stories where their person has sexual communication with a minor but they had early childhood trauma which it has been confirmed as leading to issues in adult life such as this and substance abuse? I know there is some connecton with regard to how they function in adult life following such early trauma xx

I'm a (very mature) student and recent did some research on childhood maltreatment and mental health. There is definitely a link between childhood maltreatment and drug abuse. My OH has been abusing cocaine, he says that the behaviour which resulted in his arrest only occurred when under the influence. There have been studies linking cocaine use with risky sexual behaviour.

Hi Lee1969, thank you for replying, I will definitely look for the book "Going Deeper" as I want to understand how thinking and the brain is altered, I feel so incredibly guilty for the early trauma even though it was not family related.

Thank you Confused & Worried, the brain is a complex thing isnt it and some tihings certainly impact it massively and adversley. How I wish I could turn back time and protect my person xx

Lee 1969, I will have to get the book. My person has spoken in depth to his therapist regarding the childhood trauma and his therapist has told me that his issues throught teenage years and into adulthood stem from the early trauma :(

I told my person I was so sorry that it happened and he couldn't tell us but when I speak about it he gets upset, dismisses the questions/comments and withdraws and changes the subject.

Excuse my french, but some little shit that was involved is living his best life with a fiancee and good job and house whereas my person has struggled mentally with almost everything in life since it happened (he was around 10yrs old), Breaks my heart but I'm starting to understand why he went down the road he has since early teens and it explains why he's done what he has with substance abuse, I now understand he was blocking out the trauma but there was no escape, now he has a therapist this is helping him unravel his issues and dark thoughts and to understand himself more and try to "right" eveything in his own head.

Sorry for the long post xx
