Changing name

My husband has a very distinctive name so he is thinking of changing it now prior to the charge sheet coming out. He plans to only change his name temporarily until after sentencing mainly to protect our teens from any vigilante activity and/or negativity if it gets out.
I can't seem to find any info on what you legally MUST change, the Unlock charity unfortunately were not very helpful.
Does anyone know if you have to legally tell Companies House, HMRC, all your banks etc? I heard the only one you MUST change is your driving licence and obviously your passport if you are planning to go abroad. And obviously you must tell the police immediately.
