There is a consultation concerning criminal injuries compensation. Currently they reject any claim from a person who has an unspent conviction.

Obviously this is unjust, why should someone who is a victim of violence be treated differently just because they have a conviction. I could understand if there was a clear link that their offence had somehow provoked the situation, but it is just a blanket ban. Once again this could affect partners and families. If my partner was seriously injured, why should I have to take on all the financial pain, just because he has a conviction, and is denied compensation that others would get. It makes no sense.

I've just spent a good amount of time highlighting not just the unjustness of it but also including the unjustness and unfairness of the criminal justice system as a whole. Will it make a difference? Probably not. But hopefully some of the points raised could be discussed and considered.

Thanks for highlighting this Zack, hope yourself and your partner are doing ok x
