Bank account closed

Just noticed that his bank account has been closed without any warning. That is the account that pays our bills and mortgage... now its gone with all the money for this month and next month bills.... I dont know what to do about it and I am increasingly worried we are gonna lose the houe and I will end up on the streets....
Is it a joint account?
When I've had to close a joint account in the past, both signatures were needed and we needed to provide onwards account details for funds that remained in it to be transferred.
Contact your bank and find out what is happening. If you have payment due to come out shortly, contact the companies and give them alternative bank details so you don't default on payments whilst you get to the bottom of it (assuming you have some means to fund the transactions whilst your normal bank account is resolved).

Sorry, I've just seen that it was his bank account.
He may have requested this? You seem like you are in a really though situation right with not being able to have a conversation with him directly to find out what is happening.
Is the mortgage in his, yours or a joint name?

Hey there,
What a massive worry :(
It's more than possible that your partner has instructed a solicitor or been given the opportunity to move his money and close his account. However - I don't know the protocol on still being responsible for mortgage payments from prison.. Is the mortgage in both of your names? You need to speak to the mortgage company ASAP and explain the situation and they should give you a month's grace to get yourself together.. if you have made any over payments then they definitely will take this into consideration but recalculate your interest.
Unfortunately because of GDPR etc I doubt the bank will speak to you about his account.
I hope you can have a conversation with him soon..
Xxx

Before we got sentence we were moving forward to adding my name on the mortgage so I can be liable to pay ot as well but it did not happen. I am on the mortgage but only as a tenant so I am not liable to pay anything in the even he stops paying So right now its just his name on it. We assume his lawyer told him to do so however he did not give any of us a heads up about the bank account, we knew he would try to put the mortgage and his car loan on hold but we sent him a letter to tell him not to.
At this point I am not sure what to do. His lawyer (payed by his grandparents) does not communicate with any of us.
I am at work, his granddad works as well and his grandmother is chasing up the lawyer but we are not successful in this.
The only option at the moment is to default on the last 3 payments that are supposed to be made this month until we get to speak with him and see what happened.
If he moved the money we would need to know where he moved them as he only has one bank accout... if he put the money on his prisoner account its insane as it is a huge amount of money to have in prison....
Until Tuesday when his nan goes to visit him we won't be able to get in contact with him...
I really hope I manage to find all the details I need to switch the DDs onto my account and stop worrying about losing our home

I don't think there is any practical information I can offer her but if he defaults on payment this could risk the house and his future credit rating. Its really important that he understand the implications him making changes could have on him and on you.
It must be very hard without understanding what is going through his head, what he's done and why. I wonder if contacting Citizens Advice would be useful, just to understand what would happen high level if he simply just stops paying the mortage. Unfortunately because you are not named on the mortage etc you will be able to do very little on his behalf. You also need to consider what will happen to you if he's defaulting on mortage - you may be able to get some advise on this.

Update- we went to the bank. They said he contacted them to put his personal loan on pause as he is incarcerated and the bank basically did what they wanted.... they just froze his card and online banking but did not freeze any of the direct debits coming out of his account.
Its stupid as his loan repayment is done by direct debit therefore that was not pause at all.... now its a case of we cannot see the amout in his account so we have to play it by ear and transfer money into the accout every month...
We were told that if there arw any direct debits that are bouncing back we should go to the bank and check
It it ridiculous! But we are going to ask him to give us 3 power of attorney so we can get the card unfrozen and see the balance of the account

I'm glad you've managed to find out what happened. You may need to bare in mind POE takes about 16 weeks to sort out, so you may need to look at something else in the intermin. Someone mentioned to me that there are charities that help people whilst they are in prison to arrange these kinds of things. It's really important for but you and he, that he keeps payment up.
