What help is available for my autistic son after prison
Notifications OFF
Hi. I wonder if anyone can help. My autistic son aged 25 is in prison. Due out in March next year. My husband and I are over 70 and obviously our son will come home to us if allowed. But we are worried sick about where he will live if we die. There is only us. No other family to help as everyone lives abroad. Before conviction social services were involved trying to find assisted living for my son as we feel he really needs to learn to be independent in case anything happens to us. Do they still have a duty of care towards my son if he is a sex offender? We have heard that no landlord will take a sex offender. We are desperately worried that he will end up on the streets. He is very gullible and easily manipulated which is how he got into trouble in the first place. Has anyone any suggestions of whom we can ask for help? He has coped very well in prison. But all he does all day is play games on a consolee an d watch TV. He has social difficulties so never ever goes outside during open times. He can't really communicate with people. I feel that he has not learned a lesson in prison as he has such an easy time. Its hardly any different from home as he spent a lot of his time shut away in his room. The prison have never made him work in all the time he has been there. I wish they would. Its far too easy for him. I am worried that he comes out thinking that prison is not so bad and he re offends. I realise that the pu ishment is being locked up but it really does not seem to bother him. Any advice please. Thank you
Hi
Have you spoken to the National Autistic Society? I have 2 children with ASD and find them really helpful.
