I understand how you feel. I read the other day of someone who had physical abused a child, while his sentence was a bit longer (not much) than my person's the SOR and SHPO was the same and I thought - How can my person be deemed the same danger?! To have such a direct comparison in sentencing must be very hard.
I still find myself looking very regularly at the different sentences people with the same charge received. I know I shouldn't. I can't change it. There is much disparity between cases on every step on the journey. I'll drive myself crazy if I carry on thinking this way so I'm trying really hard to understand the situation we are currently in, what he needs to be doing now, the support he needs and trying to understand what our options are in the future.

Don't get me wrong it doesn't upset me, more annoys me at the injustice!
like you say SAL to keep sane in this journey, you sometimes just have to concentrate on moving forward!

Smile,
I totally agree, I do not for one second condone what he did but the sentence is one thing, the media another that will follow him for the rest of his life :-( but having an indefinite SHPO , how do we expect our sons to try and rebuild a life, yet other crimes they do there time get released and some not all can move on without restrictions
Xx

I'm trying to not think too far ahea. There are many hurdles still to overcome. I think SHPO can be challenged after 5 years but SOR is 15. There are more immediate issues to overcome but finding out the facts on the above is something I will do I've the next year.
It's definitely not worth thinking too far into the future. Especially for things that cannot be dealt with right now.
SHPO can be challenged in court at any time. Within 5 year police agreement is needed, after that it's not needed.
Indefinite SOR can be challenged after 15 years by asking the police. No court requirement.
You cannot ask for the indefinite SOR to be stopped while there is still an indefinite SHPO in place, so you have to get that squashed by the court first.

You definitely learn to 'try' to step back Mj - you cannot control what the future might bring and the worry is no good for your mental health.
My son is/was not very street wise and I fear how he'll cope on the outside esp with the heavy restrictions in place. But I cannot change any of that no matter how I try. And as always you DO have to think about yourself, he's relatively young / I'm not!!!!!!
