It is not always easy to guess if media will be present, it's a bit like pot luck. Magistrates has a public gallery aspect so the media have rights to be there if they want.

It seems most of the time media would go for crown/sentencing appearances if they do at all. Best to prepare for the worst. If you have social media you may want to consider locking it down or removing - or at least making it very private

I'm afraid that they can be. In my son's case there were media reports on both his magistrates' appearance and his sentencing at Crown Court.

The media was at the magistrate pre-sentence, but not at the sentence. Which I thought was strange cause surely they want the outcome more for their story.

It was online the next day and lasted a few days, we have had no problems. We have lost friends and family and I do miss some. It's been over 2 years now. It is really hit and miss and I think it depends were you live. We live in a small village and still here.

To be honest, we thought we'd avoided media reports, but they appeared 3 to 4 days after the hearings.

Hi, we had nothing at Magistrates, but Crown got reported 2 days after the hearing. This was a local rag and the article was typically out of proportion. It was very pretty damaging and some so called friends decided to share it facebook so basically then everyone knew. We were ostrisized (me included) from a certain circle of people we had been friends with. The fallout was quite bad. It came as a total shock as I thought we had got away with it after Magistrates. However some other friends (who hadn't known) were tremendously supportive. That was in February, and everything is pretty calm now.. (long may it stay that way). Fingers crossed you will be ok, but it's best to be prepared. I wasn't and it was horrendous. Sending positive hugs! Xx

Hope your okay your all so strong to cope I don't know how I will. I am preparing for the worst but hoping for the best. I'm extremely worried about the media . A few years ago it wouldn't have been to bad but since we have lived here and it's next to our daughter's school there friends and her friends eveeywere kids knocking on the door for cash washes dog works . Everyone knows us . And there is some rough people about . We have also worked for a big company with hundreds of team and we have moved all over to work for them so the amount of people we have worked with its in the thousands over the years so I don't know a place were we wouldn't know anyone. Everything's going wrong at the moment money wise and we're getting in some bad sisuations . So I have no idea how I would move and thats stressing me I was trying to keep a run away fund . He has cha he'd his name but solicitor never says anything about it just says we'll talk on the day ect . It also sounds crazy but I'm trying the plan the court like do I drop him off at the entrance he runs in ect . Then waits a while in the toliets or somthing . There's been alot of story's similar in my local news they seem to love it at the moment and the police have given there men's pictures so I pray they don't give his xx

Hey Xxx

Have you tried the live chat? It's a text box, not a phoecall. They are open today I think 9-12, you can click on the link here on the forum index page. You can type to LFF and they will type back to you. They are support for you and your girls, I know you haven't got anyone to talk to but you can talk to LFF with no judgement at all and they might have some suggestions for free stuff to help you get some support xx

To be honest, it hadn't occurred to me that there would be any backlash after the Crown sentancing. I assumed that because we hadn't had anything at magistrates it would be the same. I only found out because a friend saw in the local rag 2 days later (as it is a weekly publication) and called me to warn me. And then it all kicked off at the weekend really.

But not everyone's story is the same. It's the luck of the draw as to what other news is on and whether there's a reporter at the court. Fingers crossed for you. Xx
