Hello
I'm considering speaking to my GP as although nearly 5 months in I'm still struggling at times with everything. I'm dubious at saying why I'm so anxious and upset though. Can anyone give me advice on what to say and has anyone told their gp?

I'd hope they'd be professional but I understand your concern. When I spoke to mine I said my person had been sentenced for something that has a huge (understandable) stigma associated with it. I then explained how it impacted me - Anxiety, feeling low, lonely. Ultimately there are probably one 2 forms of help they can offer - Talking therapy and medications, for medication they need to understand your symptoms and perhaps a brief understanding as to what the cause might be. If it is talking therapy that is something where, as many people have said in here that it's best to do this with someone that understands these crimes. The other thing they may be able to offer is something like CBT to help build mechanisms for coping.
In the conversation I'd really try to bring the conversation back to you and your needs, ultimately that is why you are there, the rest is the back story

I went to my doctor about a week after the knock because I couldn't sleep or eat. I just said that my partner had been arrested for something which had blown my world apart, and that I wasn't coping at all. You don't have to tell them the full facts, just enough to explain why you're feeling how you do. x
I can only agree with lost123, our GPs have been non judgemental & prescribed both advice/ medication when We both needed it most. So go see them & only tell them what You yourself WANT to. Most of the time a problem shared is a problem halved, as long as it is shared with the RIGHT person, is your GP.
