Has anyone else had experience of this? Is it worth it etc? OH currently serving custodial, obviously wants a new start when he gets out so is considering this. But we don't plan on moving, so half of people will know him as old name and new people as new name. Think he just wants it for new job etc (if he gets one!) What are peoples thoughts?
or is it worth asking internet erasure, but do they do that so soon after sentencing .. it's been a year.

Hi,

My person is considering going by his middle name when he finds a job. The main issue he's having is most places ask about unspent convictions and I believe his conviction doesn't become spent until he is off the sor. This is also the criteria for the right to be forgotten (internet erasure).
He is well known in the area and has only had one person say anything to him, we're 20 months post sentencing. The person who said something to him was an ex work colleague of mine who had an issue with him prior to all of this xxx

Hi Distressed, SOR isn't counted for unspent convictions. Actual sentence and any SHPO will. Have a look at Unlock.org.uk. Unlock also has info on employers that'll consider people with convictions or don't ask.

PR always worth considering if he has a less common name. My H is still employed but is hoping they don't find out. It's not in his contract to disclose so fingers crossed. But there are others in our area with same name. Not so easy to deny if they print his photo.

My person is planning on changing his name. He did consider not doing it until his conviction became spent and then attempting to remove any evidence of the offence from the Internet, but has mentioned below, the conviction isn't considered spent until SHPO is spent - My person has a life SHPO but we can apply for this to be removed after 5 years, but will only apply once we feel it would get approved and I think that will depend on hour the relationship is with the Visor Team. I did consider whether it would be worth contacting the press after the sentence has become spent and seeing if they'd at least remove the photo sighting that his best chance for rehabilitation and not commiting any crime again is being able to reintegrate back into society and that'd be easier if we weren't fearful of people seeing his photo. I'd also mention the work he'll have done in prison and work completed after. We'll make the call at the time whether or not we do.

I've even been considering how we could make him look different - Or at least different from the photos.
